Room Mate Giulia, Milan, Italy

by Tuesday, April 4, 2017

Juliana wears the Guest Relations badge at Room Mate Giulia in Milan, housed in an austere-looking building which was formerly a bank’s offices, just a stone’s throw from the Duomo. Inside, the experience is much warmer, and a lot more fun. Room Mate Hotels say that the best way to travel is visiting friends so they’ve conceived each of their hotels as a “personal friend of yours. Someone you’ll stay with, and who will show you around [her] city. Someone as unique as you.” In Milan, the interior design is vintage-inspired, by Patricia Urquiola. Our “friend” in Milan is Giulia, and she is “a set designer at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, curious, meticulous, and exciting.” Giulia wants us to feel as if we have already been here before. She also wants us to have an intimate journey that will change how we see things. But most of all, she wants us to leave knowing that our “love for the city can be expressed in just one word: APERITIVO.” An aperitivo is an alcoholic drink consumed prior to a meal with the intention of stimulating the appetite or literally opening the stomach or palate. Sounds good to us!

Your most popular request…

Tourists who come to Milan definitely need to explore the shopping area and the great cuisine! Another must is Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Last Supper”.  That must be booked in advance.

Your favourite locale when enjoying a day off…

When the sun is out, riding a bicycle or picnicking at Parco Sempione is a great way to relax and enjoy fresh air. My other advice is to have a nice aperitivo with friends. In Milan, there are many wonderful bars to drink Spritz and eat good snacks.

Best coffee…

You can’t miss the famous Cova Caffe in Montenapoleone street. A perfect break for a shopping day! Just opened, Il Marchesino in Galleria Vittorio Emmanuelle is a great place enjoy a coffee and a little sweet! It will instantly make you smile.

Where we must go for lunch…

In a traditional trattoria, where you find a great homemade dish. My advice is to explore Brera Area or walk up in Corso Garibaldi for local places and cute little streets.

It’s a rainy day outside but we want to explore, what we should do…

Enjoy one of the many great museums in Milan. Gallerie d’Italia in Piazza della Scala is a jump into the past! Absorb the magnificent atmosphere and Italian art. At the end, enjoy a good cappuccino at their bar. Vintage and nice.

An absolute must-do or must-see before leaving Milan…

Must go to Navili district, during the night it is the best spot for an aperitivo and walk along the canal area. Must see is the Armani Museum, full of history and colors. Italian fashion at its best.

What you love about your hotel…

The people. Room Mate Giulia is full of life. Here you feel as though you are at a friend’s house, right at city’s heart, next to the Duomo. With us you will find the best comfort and be able to relax to explore Milan and enjoy it at its most.

Something else we should know about when visiting Milan…

Milan is a special city. Here you find a great mix of culture, shopping and restaurants. Don’t forget that from here you can day trip to other exciting destinations such as the Lakes or small towns like Bergamo.
