Aren’t Concierges lovely people?! Meet Caitlin Jarosz: a people person who loves her city and her job. Born and raised in Melbourne, she moved to Canberra in 2013, and has worked at EAST Hotel, in Kingston, for just under two years. Her favourite thing about her role? “Everything! This job allows me to build amazing relationships with regular guests, help leisure guests experience Canberra the best way they can, and share my love of Canberra!” Such positivity is positively inspiring, isn’t it? Let’s get to know Caitlin and Canberra and EAST…

Caitlin Jarosz.

Favourite locale when enjoying a day off

I love spending my day off having brunch at my favourite cafe, ONA, on the lawns, followed by a kayak on the lake.

Where she takes her own guests when they visit

When my younger brother comes to Canberra, I love to take him to Cockington Green, the dinosaur museum, Questacon, and pod playground at the arboretum! When other family members visit, I always take them to the big Canberra attractions such as the war memorial, old and new parliament houses, and to all my favourite restaurants!

It is a rainy day, but we want to explore what we should do

On a rainy day in Canberra, I always recommend visiting one of the many amazing museums or galleries Canberra has to offer! Year round, there is always an amazing exhibition on at the National Gallery of Australia, the National Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Burrunju Art Gallery.

Her recommendations for night-time entertainment

Canberra has a great nightlife! Bars such as Kokomos, Joe’s Bar, Akiba and Tipsy Bull are all great place for anything from a night out or just after-work drinks. In regard to restaurants, my favourites are Akiba, Raku, Italian and sons, Morks and of course Agostinis!

Key phrases visitors should learn

Third-best city to visit in the world! The heart of the nation. The Capital of Cool.

The best shopping and souvenirs to buy

When it comes to fashion, the Canberra centre and Braddon are my go to’s! The Canberra centre has all the brands, whilst Braddon has lots of unique boutiques. I also love heading down to the bus depot markets on a Sunday morning. In regard to souvenirs, you can’t go past a bottle or two of some of the amazing local wine! My favourites are Clonakilla and Lark Hill.

Child-friendly things to do or places to go

Canberra is the ultimate family fun get away destination. For kids (and parents) I always recommend Questacon, the National Zoo and Aquarium and Cockington Green. I also recommend getting active outdoors at one of the many Canberra parks, playgrounds and reserves! I should also say that EAST considers itself one big happy family! Family-owned, family-operated and family-focused, we have two designated kids rooms – ‘Kids Cubbies’ – that interconnect with East Apartments to make the perfect family stay. Bunk beds, play tables, XBox games and kids mini bar – total kid heaven! And when you want to explore the local area, our bikes are free to cruise and we have sizes to suit all. Did we mention there are free lollies in the lobby and meter-long pizzas in Agostinis?

Best-kept secret or favourite hidden treasure

The wineries! Canberra and the surrounding regions have such beautiful wineries that are amazing just to visit or for tastings as well! Another hidden treasure is amazing markets! Throughout the year, there are market for all to enjoy such as the fashion market, kids’ market, farmers’ markets and so much more! The pop inn is also an amazing treasure and the pop-up wine bar alternates between locations around Canberra.

Best way to get to the airport

I always use uber.

Best time of year to visit

I always recommend spring as it is the perfect weather! There are also amazing events such as Floriade and so much more.

Anything else we should know when visiting

There are many reasons to love and visit Canberra. Canberra is more than just politics! Canberra is a place that takes serious environmental responsibility and prides itself on its strong indigenous heritage. Canberra offers such a great diversity of attractions and experiences for solo travellers, couples, families and groups. Canberra has something to appeal to everyone… and did I mention great wineries?
