Balfours Boutique Hotels

Brisbane is in the boutique hotel zone. They are setting the trends across Australia for how to create not only a beautiful place to stay; but the coolest bars and restaurants to hang out in and shopping that dances to it’s own beat. It’s just a pleasure to travel through and of course sample the brilliant boutique hotels! Try this one out for size next time you’re in Brissie.

The newest hotel in the Spicers Group, Balfour in Brisbane’s New Farm is a classic and fully revitalised Queenslander with just nine guest rooms, ensuring privacy and attention to detail. I thought it was a very special place.

Owner and Designer Beverley Trivett took three years to create Balfours and she has achieved something quite unique. Balfours is decked out with Swedish rest chairs, Egyptian chandeliers and antique Chinese side tables. The filtered and boiling water systems, coffee machine, and Côté Bastide bathroom products for indulgence in the rain shower or giant bathtub add special touches.

Guests revel in cosy rooms and enjoy sitting on the large verandahs for breakfast, morning and high tea. At dusk, drinks and canapés are served on the rooftop which overlooks the Story Bridge.

As with all Spicers properties, there are books everywhere, bowls of fruit and biscuits and there’s always someone close by to make you a cup of tea or pour a glass of bubbles.

New Farm neighbours, Fortitude Valley and Balfours’ guests head there for its eating places and shopping.

Summer, beachy clothing. Maybe something a bit dressier for a dinner out.

  • The Emporium is always a favourite place to hang out. I love the cafes, the shoe shops and the cool bars. Super slick this one.
  • For us Interiors Junkies, you gotta check out the store of Black & Spiro. I warn you now, you’ll not leave empty handed.
