Well, Dear Traveller, that’s a wrap for Egypt and Jordan. I hope you enjoyed tagging along with me. While I was away, some of you gorgeous people requested details about the itinerary of the Egypt/Jordan trip so, thanks to Scenic, here they are…
Day 1 – Giza (Cairo)
Your journey into wonder begins at Giza with a two night special stay at your iconic hotel. You’ll be able to soak up the magnificent view of the Great Pyramids right from your balcony.
Day 2 – Giza
Be awed by the sheer magnitude of the Pyramids and visit the Solar Boat Museum housing the restored cedar wood barge dating back to 2500 BC before marvelling at the 20-metre limestone monolith of the Sphinx. This evening watch the laser light display and entertaining show at the Pyramids.
Day 3 – Giza > Luxor
Fly to Luxor and relax in the beautiful gardens of your Special Stay hotel for tonight. Discover the antiquities housed in the Luxor Museum followed by a walk through the colourful local markets.
Day 4 – Luxor > Nile Cruise
Cross to the West Bank of the Nile and be astounded by the well-preserved, colourful hieroglyphics adorning the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. See the impressive monument to Queen Hatshepsut, then admire the well-preserved temple of Ramses III. Return to Luxor and embark on your luxurious private charter on board the boutique Sanctuary Sun Boat III and settle into your elegantly appointed cabin. Late afternoon tour the vast open-air temple complex of Karnak and be awed by the enormity of the pillars as you walk through the impressive Hypostyle Hall.
Day 5 – Nile Cruise
Relax on one of the Sun Decks and catch a glimpse of daily life along the banks of the Nile as you cruise to Dendera. Marvel at the vibrant colours of the hieroglyphics adorning the roof of Hathor’s temple before returning to Luxor and visiting the impressive Luxor temple. This evening’s entertainment will delight with the colours of the whirling dervishes and the mesmerising moves of a belly dancer.
Day 6 – Nile Cruise
Follow the course of the ancient Pharaohs’ processions along the Nile as you cruise south where villages and majestic temples line the banks of the river against the backdrop of the desert. Discover the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the most completely preserved complex in Egypt.
This afternoon explore Kom Ombo temple, perched high on the east bank and dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god. A fun night awaits on board with a lively Galabeyya party themed with Egyptian delicacies, music and dancing.
Day 7 – Nile Cruise
Cruise south to reach charming Aswan, the home of the Nubian people. Discover the Osiris temple complex of Philae, then visit the stone quarries to learn about ancient carving techniques and see the enormous unfinished obelisk. A leisurely afternoon awaits as you savour your last moments on board and take a felucca cruise on the Nile. Tonight join the Captain and crew for a farewell Gala Dinner.
Day 8 – Nile Cruise > Aswan
Be ensconced in luxury during your Special Stay and admire the sweeping views over the Nile from the comfort of your balcony.
Watch the sun set and picture yourself as Agatha Christie, pen in hand, as you sample delicious Mediterranean cuisine during a private dinner at The Terrace.
Day 9 – Aswan > Cairo
Fly to Abu Simbel and visit one of Egypt’s most magnificent monuments. Marvel at the enormous World Heritage-listed temples of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari, rescued from the rising waters of the Aswan Dam. Later, fly to the bustling city of Cairo for your two night stay.
Day 10 – Cairo
Discover the priceless antiquities in the Egyptian Museum including the artefacts recovered from Tutankhamun’s tomb and the collection of Royal Mummies.
Day 11 – Cairo > Amman
Fly to Amman, the capital of the Kingdom of Jordan, for a two night stay.
Day 12 – Amman
Discover the ancient Roman city of Jerash, inhabited since the Bronze Age. Explore the impressive ruins and witness an exciting re-enactment of a Roman chariot race in the hippodrome.
Day 13 – Amman > Petra
During a private visit to the Royal Automobile Museum you will be captivated by the extensive private collection of the Royal Family.
At Bethany Beyond the Jordan see where Jesus was baptised and view the memorial to Moses at Mount Nebo. At Madaba discover the famous mosaic map of the Holy Land then continue to the rose red city of Petra for your two night stay. An unforgettable sight awaits as you visit the Treasury and chasms lit by candlelight.
Day 14 – Petra
This magnificent World Heritage-listed city is the legacy of the Nabataeans, who settled in southern Jordan more than 2,000 years ago.
The impressive eastern entrance leads through a brilliantly coloured narrow gorge to the imposing Treasury, more than 40 metres high. Designed to impress, the rock-cut facade will take your breath away. This is only the first of many wonders you will discover here today.
Day 15 – Petra > Wadi Rum
Travel in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia as you discover the dramatic desert landscapes of Wadi Rum. Explore Lawrence Road and be awed by the vistas of ancient valleys and towering weathered sandstone mountains rising out of the pink and white sands. You will feel like you have stepped onto the moon during your Special Stay in the luxurious Martian tents of the Sun Camp.
Day 16 – Wadi Rum > Aqaba
Early risers will be rewarded with the stillness of the desert at sunrise. Later, continue south to Aqaba for a two night Special Stay. Relax in the luxurious surrounds of your hotel, step onto your balcony with sweeping Red Sea views or take a dip in the pool.
Day 17 – Aqaba > Dead Sea
Cruise and snorkel the Red Sea or ride the glass bottom boat in search for marine life. Alternatively, you may choose a relaxing Spa treatment.
Day 18 – Aqaba > Dead Sea
Day 19 – Dead Sea
Enjoy the facilities of your resort including direct access to the sea. Perhaps spoil yourself and allow the staff to slather you in the therapeutic mud. Or float in the hypersaline waters of the Dead Sea, while reading a book or the newspaper.
Day 20 – Dead Sea > Amman
Say farewell as you transfer to Amman airport taking a lifetime of wonderful memories with you.
