For this week’s Guest Traveller, we revisit five of our favourite family holidays! While we dream about our next school holiday destination, immerse yourselves in the adventures of these five families through New Caledonia, Tuscany, USA, Bali and New Zealand – while picking up some great tips on travelling with families along the way.
Noumea, New Caledonia
Guest Traveller Bridget Garrard and her family joined two other Melbourne-based families for a two-week holiday in New Caledonia in September. With pools all to themselves, kayaking adventures, snorkling and turtle spotting, we loved hearing all about how these three families – with six children collectively – enjoyed their first visit to the French archipelago.
Tuscany, Italy
Our next guest travelling family spent three months immersed in the culture of Lucca, Tuscany. Naomi Capomolla, co-founder of Little Finders, took her partner and her three-year-old twins on the adventure of a lifetime, and shared with us her very personal and amazingly comprehensive story of their trip. Eating, drinking and sharing wonderful memories together on a daily basis, Naomi shares her tricks and tips on travelling to Tuscany with a young family
Memphis, Tennessee, USA
“We’re going to Graceland, Graceland, Memphis, Tennessee…” Australian expat Matt Harrington, his wife Cherie and their two children moved to Chiswick, London – via a three-month trip around the USA! We join them on their journey through the “musical” heart of America and birth-place of rock-n-roll, Memphis Tennessee.
Bali, Indonesia
Used to travelling to Bali for a parents’ escape, Guest Traveller Andrea Swain mixes things up a bit on this Bali escape by throwing the dice and adding two children to the mix! In this two part piece, we discover if the Bali experience was as wonderful as they had remembered, sans kids. The verdict? A trip of a lifetime that this family cannot wait to repeat.
South Island, New Zealand
Canadians living in Melbourne, Sarah and Chris Bower, and their three children aged between three and eight, explored the South Island of New Zealand from a motorhome over 14 days over the summer break. Travelling through Christchurch, Milford Sounds, Abel Tasman National Park and all the way down to Dunedin, the Bower family share their top five tips on travelling with a family of five in a motorhome!
