Around the world in seven stops

by Monday, May 13, 2019

This week, we’re taking a trip around the globe as we revisit some of our recent Guest Travellers. I don’t know about you, but I’m about ready to book that round-the-world ticket!

Australia & The Pacific

We didn’t have to look too far for this one – guest travelling family Ange, Paul, Oscar (10) and Mia (8) embarked on a six-month trip of a lifetime around Australia. This family jumped out of their comfort zone (often literally into beautiful watering holes!), learnt how to fish, avoided fresh-water crocs, and felt a magical connection to the country they call home. This extraordinary journey was nothing short of inspiring.

Asia

Japan has been on our bucket list for some time, so it was no surprise that when guest traveller (and avid Harry Potter fan) Elliot Johnston went on his first overseas trip, we also got caught up in the magic. Fresh sushi in Tokyo, a visit to the Golden Temple and surrounding gardens in Kyoto, the Floating Torii Gate on Miyajima Island near Hiroshima – oh, and of course, Universal Studios in Osaka (Wizarding World Of Harry Potter anyone?). This is one journey we won’t forget. Don’t miss Elliot’s great tips and apps for getting the most out of Japan.

Africa

Extraordinary wildlife was just the icing on the cake for Guest Traveller Liz Christie, who took us through Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia on her month-long adventure through Sub-Saharan Africa. A series of life-changing experiences led her through the jungle to marvel at a family of 14 gorillas, a 12-day safari where she saw her very own version of ‘The Lion King’, and then on to a stay at a Maasai lodge overlooking Mt Kilimanjaro, where they were welcomed by the Maasai locals to share in their rich and vibrant culture.

Europe

Guest Traveller Charlotte Francis took us through vibrant Amsterdam, with its gabled houses, beautiful canals with flower-decked barges and rich history – oh, and the bikes, we can’t forget the bikes. Amsterdam is a ‘must see’ on any European adventure. This European city has something for everyone, from the thriving museum quarter where you can visit the Van Gough Museum, to the vibrant markets with fresh and locally sourced produce and the quirky and hip restaurants and bars, Amsterdam really is the best place to explore!

North America

There is nothing more magical than a white Christmas (something very unfamiliar to us in the Australian summer!). Guest Traveller Kathryn Garland and her family were transported to a winter wonderland in the stunning snow-capped mountains of Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Canada. With plenty of activities to entertain them during the peak season, the kids learning to ski at some of the best ski slopes in the world is definitely something we’re sure they’ll treasure for years to come.

Middle & South America

Guest Traveller Cellina Meydam fell in love with Mexico on a holiday with friends for her birthday. The group explored the amazing Cabo San Lucas in Baja California – better known as Cabo. With horse riding through the desert, relaxing by the pool and chocolate tequila that is to-die-for, this trip is definitely one of our favourites – just watch out for the deadly moccasin snakes…  not the birthday surprise Cellina had been hoping for!

Antarctica

We couldn’t leave out this beauty; Guest Traveller Geoff Wickham and his wife went on a 20-day expedition from Argentina, the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, and the Falkland Islands. This incredible journey features penguins, albatross, elephant seals – and even an active volcano! The breathtaking scenery truly makes for an unforgettable experience.
