It’s just a 15 minute drive south of the Queensland border to find the lush and rolling sand dunes of Cabarita Beach, a former 1960’s surf hotel renovated to include all the mod-cons the local traveller has come to love. I actually came across this work of wonder through Instagram – Halcyon House’s interior designer Anna Spiro posts unique and totally inspiring interior design shots. As an interior designer aficionado myself, I couldn’t help but follow. And follow I did it seems, all the way to Brissie!
The rooms in the hotel range in size, and in views – all magnificent. They come beautifully styled with completely different furniture pieces to spice up your interest – everything from wallpaper to bedroom posts.
A large outdoor pool and brilliant peek-a-boo cafe window will keep you entertained outdoors, but the mood is particularly low-key. It’s Australia, after all.
The general manager is a native Italian, with five-star quality customer service. Just ask him to whip you up a cappuccino, I promise you won’t regret it. If you’re looking for a quality dining experience then head to the hotel’s home-grown restaurant, Paper Daisy, where up to 90 people can be seated for a thrilling meal headed up by Queensland’s chef of the year, Ben Devlin. Fresh tomatoes, local cheese from Nimbin and wild plants from the beach outside are all incorporated into the devine meals.

Speaking of quality, let’s talk about the coastal location for a moment. It’s a surfers paradise, and home to some of the most beautiful walks Queensland has to offer. But if walking isn’t fast enough for you, Halcyon House provides vintage bikes to its patrons (of the sky blue coloured variety) to get about town and beyond. Front basket most certainly included.
