Halcyon House

by Thursday, May 19, 2016

This week, we’re following the sun as we head up North to the beautiful Halcyon House – Cabarita Beach, NSW.

I consider Halcyon House’s concierge, Mauro De Riso, as one of the best in the business…

From the Isle of Capri to Cabarita Beach! Share with us your journey to Halcyon House…

I was born in Pompeii into a family whom own different hotels within Italy – hospitality has been in my blood since day dot. As long as I can remember I have always had a passion for people, personalities, cultures and the art of luxury service. In 2005, at the age of 18, my instincts drew me to Australia in an effort to learn English. In 2007 I moved to Capri where I spent the next six years seasonally dedicated to 5-star properties, including JK Place, where I spent six years. It was in 2013 I formed a relationship with in-house guests – an Australian couple whom showed me their plans for a property they were bringing to life on the North Coast of New South Wales. Shortly after, my holiday travels found me once again in Australia and I met up with the couple in Brisbane. I saw the beginning stages of Halcyon House as it was coming to life and the rest is history!

Why Cabarita Beach is the ultimate holiday destination…

Cabarita Beach holds all the charm of a quintessential Australian getaway: renowned surfing conditions, a year round summer climate plus local, fresh and wholesome produce. It really is the perfect location for families, friends and couples. It’s ideally located – nestled between the vibrance of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and Northern New South Wales’ idyllic hidden pockets – you really are in one of Australia’s most sought after regions – so explore, relax and enjoy.

When it’s raining, how do you suggest guests spend their day…

Curling up with a great book (and a loved-one), ordering in-room dining and tuning in to your favourite TV series from your personalised Apple TV – all from the privacy of your luxurious and comfy room. Alternatively, join us by the fire and allow us to create your beverage of choice. Choose from our selection of new and classic board games or jump in a car and venture around Byron Bay, Bangalow and Brunswick Heads.

Your favourite locale…

Fleet at Brunswick Heads is a unique, small restaurant that’s owned, run and managed by three awesome guys. Fleet is sure to impress. Clean, simple and tasty food with menus driven directly by what’s on offer at the region’s numerous farmers’ markets.

Where do we find the best coffee…

Kartel Espresso Bar – just next door to Halcyon House. Not only does it offer great coffee, this cafe also holds nostalgic connotations for me as it was the first place I stopped in Cabarita, before visiting and seeing Halcyon House for the very first time. Killer sandwiches too!

Where shall we do dinner…

Paper Daisy, of course!

Paper Daisy

Most popular request…

“Any chance of a late check out?” Because who would ever want to leave?!

What must we see/do before we leave Cabarita Beach…

Take a Halcyon Bike (naturally complimentary) and follow the boardwalk along the beach to Kingscliff, stopping wherever you may choose for a dip in the ocean. At low-tide we even encourage you to take the bike onto the sand and follow the ebbs and flows of the shore. Oh and sunrise at Norris Headland is a must!

What do you love most about Halcyon House…

At Halcyon House, the experience is up to individuals’ interpretation. 21 exquisite rooms, with no two rooms the same; those guests who return to our property can enjoy a different room, emotion and experience on every stay. But the personalised welcome always remains the same.
