Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare

by Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Svetlana is the ‘Lady in Red’, aka chief concierge, at Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare. Originally from Russia, Svetlana’s love of the ocean and water activities, such as diving, snorkelling, surfing and paddling, has drawn her to the Seychelles – “…one of the best places in the world to enjoy the ocean to the maximum”, she says. Described as the most beautiful islands on Earth, the Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands off the coast of East Africa, to the north of Madagascar, in the Indian Ocean. So, grab a pina colada and take in this sublime resort, near the equator…

Most popular request

To explain what guests can do on the island, or to assist with organising a special surprise for weddings, anniversaries and birthdays – whether it be a special order of flowers or a surprise private dinner on the beach.

Favourite locale when enjoying a day off

Diving. I am absolutely in love with the underwater world of Seychelles. I hope my dream to see a whale shark will come true someday.

Best coffee in the city

Best coffee is at Dolce Vita in Victoria, the smallest capital city in Africa.

Where we must go for lunch

Maria’s Rock Café, which is walking distance from our Hotel, and is not like the other places in Mahe. Its art-gallery-come-pirate-cave-come-restaurant, where you will cook your food on a hot stone yourself. It’s lot of fun and entertainment. DelPlace restaurant is one of the nicest places on Mahe island and its 25-30 minutes away from the resort. The food is delicious and the view of fishing boats and scattered islands is incredible!

It’s a rainy day outside but we want to explore, what we should do

Even though its rainy day, Seychelles still has its beauty so it’s great to grab the camera, jump in the car and go explore the island. It’s a tropical island so, suddenly, it can stop raining and the sun will come out. Or sample some island cuisine: try the octopus curry in Windsong Bar or the best sushi in Seychelles made by Chef Somsak in Kempinski Seychelles Resort.

An absolute must-do or must-see before leaving Seychelles

Do try parasailing in Beau Vallon beach in the North, so you can see the beauty of the island from the sky or go for snorkelling. Last time one of our guests spotted the eagle ray and a lobster which is a bit hard to see close to the shore. And, last but not least, the helicopter sunset scenic tour around the island or rent a boat for fishing. Maybe you’ll be lucky to catch a blue marlin!

What she loves about her hotel

I love our remarkable, secluded location in the South of Mahe. Our hotel is right on the beach and has been designed to bend in with the nature that surrounds it. It’s such a peaceful, beautiful place and we are close to some of the most beautiful beaches in Seychelles. Our own beach is used almost exclusively by our guests, so it is very relaxing. Our guests are another thing which make this hotel special. Seychelles is a unique and isolated destination – no one ever goes to Seychelles on their first trip abroad. So I find that our guests are usually very well-travelled and have a lot of interesting stories to share.

Anything else we should know when visiting Seychelles

Seychelles is not like the Maldives or Mauritius. Our islands are really well-connected and there are many things to visit – not only on Mahe Island, but on Praslin and La Digue as well. On these islands, guests have the possibility to explore an island by bicycle, visit the famous Vallee de Mai, or visit one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Each island has its own character and attractions. You are sure to take home wonderful memories of this paradise on Earth.
