The Thin Green Line is our chosen charity here at Journeys To Come. It has touched my heart, as I’m sure their mission may touch yours. We all love our African animals and, equally, are enamoured by safaris. But spare a thought for the many Rangers who daily put their lives on the line to protect these glorious animals and offer us the space to admire them.
With over 100 Rangers killed each year by poachers, think of the families left behind who have lost not only a loved one but a valued source of income. It can be a dire situation.
This organisation, set up by an Aussie Ranger, aims to educate and care for the African Rangers who do so much for those, both two- and four-legged friends, around them.
From The Thin Green Line:
In Kenya, Africa, with funding from The Thin Green Line Foundation, a group of 12 Rangers have undergone ‘Ranger Skills Coach’ training with the Ranger Campus Foundation, enabling participants to develop the skills to pass on their knowledge to their Ranger peers.
“A ‘Ranger Skills Coach’ course is designed to give students the necessary skills and competencies to deliver a specific subject to their peers in their own protected area, effectively allowing them to cascade down their knowledge.”
– Ranger Campus.
With $25,000 we can put a Ranger through an advanced train-the-trainer training course, who can then train 100 Rangers each year.
