Returning to the eye of the storm

by Friday, August 25, 2017

I’ll admit to being a bit emotional returning to a place, Hamilton Island, that I’ve watched evolve for 21 years, after it’s been in the eye of the storm, literally.

Something had to be in the eye of Cyclone Debbie and The Whitsundays were it, specifically Hamilton Island. But, after the care and tenacity of the staff, an inspired GM and the family who own and love the island… it’s now well and truly back in business.

Monday night was the goal-date everyone worked towards – the opening night of Audi Hamilton Island Race Week. The night the Oatley family set to celebrate the best of Australian food (Chef Matt Stone – amazing) and wine (Oakridge and Oatley wines just make us happy), with an out of this world dinner that I was so proud to host.

I wanted to show you the Long Pavillion before the guests arrived, it looked amazing, but it has a new ceiling after the previous one was ripped off (the reception area, too), now fully replaced and looking immaculate. Hard work has paid off big time and last night every guest felt so grateful to be included in the final result. As Nicky Oatley said, “Please just say ‘thank you’. It finally feels like home again.”

On another note, this week’s Guest Traveller, Chandni Gupta was so glad she got to share her love for Shimla, India, with you on Journeys To Come. I was, too. Like me, Chandni finds as much enjoyment in planning for the travel, as the travel itself, and loves finding places where you’re free to explore at your own pace and can experience a place like a local. A true kindred spirit in travel!

From Shimla, we returned to the more familiar shores of Brisbane in Ask The Concierge as Jordan Cirocco, a Guest Experience Agent at The Johnson – an Art Series Hotel, shared his love for the Queensland capital. Think you knew Brissie? Think again! How gorgeous does that penthouse and pool look?!

Finally, join me as we discover beautiful Bordeaux in my latest podcast including a tour of the ‘Belly of Bordeaux’ with Jerome Fradet, the Chef from Scenic Gem.

As if that’s not enough, you can find more travel inspiration on InstagramTwitterFacebook and now via my weekly podcasts.

Before I go, we have a special podcast coming out today with the wonderful author Kirsty Manning. To celebrate we’re giving you the chance to win 1 of 4 signed copies of her fabulous book “The Midsummer Garden”. A perfect accompaniment for laying under a palm tree on Catseye Beach, Hamilton Island!

Until next time, this is me signing off from the beautiful Whitsundays.
