Romantic Getaways

I spent some time checking out some great locations perfect for a romantic weekend at any time of the year.

In just a 1.5 hour drive from Sydney to the Blue Mountains, you will find a most unusual place to spend with your loved one.

The Love Tee Pee is set amongst an outcrop of rock formations in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area wilderness. The annex has opening floor-to-ceiling windows allowing the ridge-top bushland to flow into the primitive style dwelling.

Primitive only in style, the tee pee has a spa bath, kitchen, television, cosy slow combustion fireplace and two feather headdresses! You can arrange a pilates class, massage and the services of your very own chef.

A track behind the Love Tee Pee leads down the hill to various lookouts and the trail going down to Bowen’s Creek. You’ll see pristine rainforest, sandstone gorges, creeks and waterfalls and lots of native fauna.

It’s part of the Wollemi Wilderness Retreat and they also offer a Love Studio, Love Cabin, Love Cave, Dream Cabin and Wollemi House and Studio.

Enjoying a romantic gondola ride usually means an expensive trip to Venice, but as I discovered, you can do it much closer to home.

Richard and Tanya Wilschke started the company fourteen years ago and it has become one of the things to do in Noosa. The gondola was custom-built in Brisbane to replicate a traditional gondola, but is more luxurious. It’s powered by a small and very quiet motor.

They offer tranquil and romantic interludes on the Noosa River, day or night, in style and comfort. The cruises have resulted in quite a few proposals of marriage.

If you’ve already tied the knot and just fancy checking out the local scenery with friends – the gondola takes up to six people – you will get to see beach and estuary scenery, lots of birdlife and some pretty amazing homes.

Catering can be arranged, and if you fancy a cool beverage, there’s always an ice bucket on hand.

The Great Barrier Reef is sprinkled with romantic islands, none more so than Hamilton.

The Beach Club on palm-fringed Catseye Beach is an adults-only retreat. Every room has a private courtyard or balcony and interiors were designed with total relaxation in mind.

There are just fifty-seven ensuite rooms where you can enjoy gourmet dining, or head to the poolside Beach Club Restaurant for a complimentary à la carte breakfast and fine dining at dinner time.

There’s a day spa, relaxation centre, gym, spa, sauna, squash and tennis, golf and an infinity edge pool. Explore the Coral Sea by catamaran, windsurfer, paddle ski or snorkelling. Golf carts are used for getting out and about and with around forty activities on offer, you can be as active or laid-back as you choose.

Relax in the lounge bar or find some entertainment in the library.

The Blue Mountains in New South Wales and Noosa and Hamilton Island in Queensland.

Of course the key to the success of a romantic trip is all about you and your mood…I’m just trying to help set the scene for some loving.

Organisation is key. Book flights early, they can be X’y close to take off date. If you’d like to plan a proposal, surprises are great, just warn the Operator.

Do me a favour, turn your phones off and just enjoy the moment.
