Saffire Freycinet is a stunning eco-friendly, award winning hotel on Tasmania’s Freycinet Peninsula, 2.5 hours drive from Hobart.
It’s in beautiful isolation, only surrounded by luscious greenery, mountains and the sea. If the word “isolated” scares you, then read on, as there are endless ways to embrace this hinterland.
Being that Saffire Freycinet is very intimate, General Manager Justin King has the chance to spend some time with his guests and jumped at the chance to share his top tips for this beautiful area…
Why is Freycinet Peninsula the ultimate holiday destination
So much of the Freycinet is protected land. It really is a stunning part of the world. You feel completely surrounded by nature and the landscape is so dramatic. It’s quite unlike anywhere else in the world.
What is an absolute must-do and see while in Freycinet Peninsula
Guests at Saffire have the opportunity to really connect with nature. We offer many great experiences from guided walks to the incredible Wineglass Bay to the Marine Farm Oyster Experiences which allows guests to eat fresh Freycinet oysters shucked straight from the water.
When it’s raining, how do you suggest guests spend their day
With over 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s not something that we have to worry about too often. When it does rain, it tends to only be in showers and as the sun comes out afterwards the colours of the national park and beaches are at their most beautiful. My tip is therefore to wait until the shower finishes (preferably with a glass of wine), and head straight out to Wineglass Bay!
Your favourite locale
On the Saffire deck, champagne in hand at sunset. Any time of year, it is a view unlike any other.
Where do we find the best coffee
While we make great coffee up in the restaurant, I don’t think you can beat a coffee taken in your suite at sunrise!
Where shall we do dinner? We know Tassie is renowned for its fresh and flavoursome produce
Our restaurant, Palate, produces a different five course tasting menu every single night. Our executive chef, Hugh Whitehouse, is passionate about the best of Tasmanian produce, you’ll see a lot of local produce on our menu.
Most popular request
Our marine farm experience has become iconic. It truly is a surreal moment standing in the pristine waters of great oyster bay, sipping champagne and shucking oysters fresh from the sea. This would have to be our most popular experience.
What do you love most about Saffire Freycinet
It is humbling seeing people of all walks of lives feeling like they can truly be themselves. Saffire and the Freycinet area have the amazing ability to make people feel relaxed and rejuvenated. It is something I have not seen to this extent in any other property.
