The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s most family-friendly holiday destinations. With countless theme parks, patrolled beaches, attractions and gorgeous weather, it’s no wonder this location is a surefire family favourite.
Located in the heart of the action is Sea World Resort. This hot accommodation choice offers so much more than just a bed and brekkie. Think on-site water park, character appearances, nightly SpongeBob light show, direct monorail access to Sea World, plus an array of little extras for Mum and Dad to enjoy (imagine a pool-side massage while the kids are playing in the kid’s club).
Shannon Porter has worked at Sea World Resort for the past 15 years as a concierge, and it goes without saying, he absolutely loves his job! Shannon shares his top tips on where to play, eat and relax while holidaying in the Sunshine State:

Why is the Gold Coast the ultimate family-friendly destination?
There are so many different things for all ages on the Gold Coast such as theme parks, a wide variety of food from all over the world, great night life, the best beaches, fantastic rainforests where you can see glow worms or take a quad bike and tour the mountains with a local guide. You name it, the Gold Coast has it.
What is an absolute must-do with the kids while we’re here?
Definitely a theme park or a day at the beach, then hit one of the many restaurants in Surfers and top it off with an ice cream from Copenhagen (that’s topped with cream and a dollop of chocolate fudge, yummmmm!) Then burn it all off at Infinity playing all sorts of games.
Best spot for a family lunch?
There are so many cafes located right in Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach offering a variety of cuisines with amazing views of the beaches. You can never go wrong with some classic fish and chips from Peter’s Fish Market – get take away and head to the Spit or Broadwater Parklands which has an amazing playground, complete with a jumping pillow!
A nature adventure the kids will love?
Adrenalin Park has a ropes course in the trees that is loads of fun. Or head out to Mt Tamborine to the Sky Walk and have lunch at one of the many cafés.
Where shall we do dinner?
There are many great places to eat on the Gold Coast: Hatsuhana is one of the best Japanese restaurants on the coast, offering a la carte and teppanyaki options, and is conveniently located at Sea World Resort. Omeros Brothers is a great seafood restaurant on the water. Glass is fine dining at a reasonable price and Vapiano is a family friendly restaurant that does great pizza and pasta.
What do you love most about Sea World Resort?
The people. Over many years I have met and made lifelong friends, whether they are guests that return every year, sometimes more than once, or the staff. We become like family. Guest can feel this in the warm and inviting atmosphere.
What benefits do guests receive when staying at Sea World Resort?
Resort guests have easy access to Sea World, making it easy for families and kids to rest then head back out to the park once they have recharged. Our guests who stay for two nights or more also gain an exclusive access to a behind the scenes Dolphin Discovery Presentation before the park even opens, here they will see how trainers train and prepare the dolphins for the day. We also have quite a spectacular waterpark and pool area that comes to life each night, with our LED light and water show.
Guests also receive complimentary entry to Movie World, Wet’n’Wild and Paradise Country, plus discount vouchers!
