Shilla Stay Haeundae, Busan, South Korea

by Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Ms. Jayoung Yu is Assistant General Manager at the Shilla Stay Haeundae in South Korea’s second-largest city, Busan. The hotel is a member of the Connect Collection from Preferred Hotels and Resorts. It opened in April 2017, has 407 guest rooms, a cafe/buffet restaurant, rooftop pool and bar, and much more. Busan is a large port city, with seven beach districts, and a population of 3.6 million. Lying 325kms south-east of Seoul, South Korea’s capital, this seaside metropolis is known for its beaches, mountains and temples – and the fact that it was a piece of territory not captured by the Northern army in the 1950s. Let’s travel to South Korea for a taste of holiday life in Busan…

Most popular request…

“Where to find the best seafood restaurant?” Seafood is the most preferred choice for many visitors to our hotel in Busan. We do have many local seafood restaurants within walking distance of the hotel where they serve tantalising, fresh seafood dishes. Getting to choose your own seafood to cook from tanks teeming with myriad seafood choices is all part of the experience!

Favourite locale when enjoying a day off…

I do often visit BIFF (Busan International Film Festival) Square; such an energetic, busy, crowded square lined with many push carts selling street food at the very reasonable prices. It is connected to the International Market, a 2-minute walk away from Jagalchi Fish Market. I never get bored of watching magic happen at 5pm sharp – when the empty street turns into a large bustling food alley.

Best coffee…

Our ‘cafe’ offers the best coffee in town attracting coffee lovers from all over Haeundae. Freshly brewed Cova Coffee served by our barristas will give you no reason to find outside coffee shops. First founded in Milan in 1817, Caffe COVA is created from six different kinds of Arabic blends, all from the finest fields of Central America & Brazil. The magnificent flavor of COVA will make your day.

Where we must go for lunch…

The most popular noodle place, Chunhachudong, is located 5 minutes away from the hotel. Icy cold noodle soup after sunbathing by the beach is the perfect treat.

It’s a rainy day outside but we want to explore, what we should do…

Sea Life Busan Aquarium is a great venue to spend a rainy day. It is located on Haeundae beach, about 5 minutes from the hotel, and is home to over 250 marine species and some 10,000 aquatic animals and fish on display. Sea Life is also dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of the iconic finless porpoise.

An absolute must-do or must-see before leaving Busan…

Aside from beach activities, Dongbaek Island is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll. At the top of the island, there is a statue and a monument of Choe Chi-Won, a scholar and writer during the Silla Kingdom. The island also has Dongbaek Park and a 2.5m high statue of a mermaid near the beach that is a popular spot to take Instagram-worthy holiday snaps.

What she loves about her hotel…

Being located at the ocean front, you can enjoy panoramic views of the ocean from your room. The swimming pool and jacuzzi on the rooftop overlooking the Haeundae beach are where you can enjoy drinks and snacks. Occasionally,  you will be able to catch brilliant fireworks put on by the cruise ships nearby.

Anything else we should know about when visiting Busan…

Bringing your jogging gear would be a great idea. Jogging around the ocean front enjoying the view of the cost line is something that you don’t want to miss out on.
