My friend Janelle bases herself at Mt Buller each year with her three daughters and this woman is an expert when it comes to top tips for taking your little cherubs to the snow…

  1. Aim for half an hour before the time you need to be ready by, everything takes so long!
  2. Mittens or gloves? Mittens seem to keep the children’s hands warmer.
  3. Pop a bicycle light on the back of the helmet, it really helps to spot them when visibility is low.
  4. When it’s really cold outside, invest in those toe and hand warmers you get at Costco, ski and mountaineering stores.
  5. XTM, ROJO, Rip Curl and Quicksilver do great kids ranges for the snow and are all online.
  6. Ski school is an absolute must, don’t expect to have the same patience of a qualified instructor.
  7. Get everyone to stretch before and after skiing.
  8. May is the time for the Aldi annual snow sale. It’s always amazing, jot it in your diary for next year!
  9. Wrist guards that fit under the gloves are required for snowboarders. We’re all risk prone, so you’ll have to deal with it.
  10. Water water water. You do dehydrate, it may lead to headaches, so keep up the h2o.
