There’s something about The Star. Located on the edge of Sydney’s Darling Harbour, its multi-million dollar makeover has made quite an impression. I couldn’t resist a visit to see what it was all about.
Making the most of dramatic harbour and city views, The Star has two hotels, penthouses, serviced apartments, 20 restaurants, bars and cafés, a 16 room day spa, and up-market retail and casino areas.
The Event Centre caters to international performers, intimate concerts, conferences, exhibitions and 950 seat banquets.
The Darling, Sydney’s newest luxury hotel, has 171 elegant rooms and suites and has received many design awards, as well as a long list of celebrity guests. Linger in the lobby and you never know who you might spot!
I settled into a Darling Room and there was nothing ‘standard’ about it. Textured wallpapers and bespoke furniture are most impressive. Hard to imagine larger suites and penthouses could surpass.
The rooftop spa and pool are heavenly. Not only extremely stylish, but the water is scented with white tea and eucalyptus. There are 16 treatment rooms, including a traditional hamam Turkish spa room. Expertly trained therapists hone in on your particular needs and desires and for a real taste of luxury, treat yourself to Two’s Company.
The 4 hour indulgence starts with a private car pick-up within a 20 kilometre radius of The Star. On arrival you enjoy a glass of champagne or fruit cocktail, while two therapists give a private couples treatment consultation in your suite.
An Amrit Hamam Body Polish is an invigorating way to begin. That is followed by a Abhyanga massage and an aromatic bath ritual. A light lunch and champagne is served, after which you enjoy a spa. Therapists then complete the enjoyment with incomparable La Prairie products and you float back to your chauffeured car with a beautiful The Darling Spa gift.
The Darling’s Japanese restaurant, Sokyo, is a fusion of Tokyo and Sydney. Head chef Chase Kojima blends traditional cooking techniques and methods with Australia’s best produce. There is a resident DJ and New York style bar.
When it comes to nightlife, The Star really shines with its array of glamorous bars, including the massive Marquee Nightclub and Cherry Cocktail Lounge. The perfect place for a nightcap.
Relax, dance, eat and have a flutter in the casino in the glamorous surroundings of The Star and you’re bound to return again and again. There’s always something to keep you entertained.
